Moving Day

I don't have a lot of pictures from moving day because, well it was moving day and that is hectic.  I really didn't spend that much time moving due to the excellent organizational and delegation skills of my friends.  RKS and I spent most of the time breaking down my bed and couch.  Then we spent the rest of the time putting my bed and couch back together.  It was all quit a blur.
Note the beautiful new hardwoods and the matching sexy walls.

Something went wrong with the door, we found out later the lock mechanism had collapsed.  Still don't really know what that means.

Bed assemblage in new house.

Future man cave/technology center.

Guest room now sleeps 3.

It seems like so much stuff...
(Of course priorities were in place. We had the cable installed Friday so we would be able to watch the Beaver game.  When moving day was pushed back a day we were ready for the Broncos game.  Phew)
...but it's not.  Look at this completely empty room
Now look at my kitchen.  Why is the kitchen what I have the most of?

By the end of the day we actually made quite a bit of head room.  The entertainment center was even in working order by sunset, you might be able to see Kris crouched in the corner doing wiring.

I got to work in the master bed.  I have the most clothing so it seemed important to get that put away so we could go to sleep.

Not bad for a first day!  Slept like a baby that night.  It must be home!

Man night

The previous owners were smokers so we knew the first thing that needed to happen was carpet, wallpaper, and curtain removal.  We were just nervous about what we would find behind and below.  The boys all decided they wanted to have a man night.  They bought a bunch of beer and I brought over pizza.  They got up to all kinds of shenanigans but when I stopped by the next morning everyone was hard at work.

The wall paper came down pretty easily, but

so did a lot of the plaster coating.

This is just for one room!

Then we had to decide if we needed a dumpster.  Turns out that is way easier to do than I thought.  We  called and one was in front of our house 3 hours later.  How's that for Saturday service?

Look at all the different colors!  If you can't tell there is green, blue, beige, and grey.

The boys were excited to rip up carpet.

With the dumpster ordered and the house clearly in good hands I went for a run.

An hour later I returned to this!

Look at the difference!  The floors, aside from a bit of rotting upstairs near the tub looked great.
In case you didn't know this.  Carpeting used about a billion staples.

The light looks so nice on the lightened walls and pretty floors.

 Removing staples is very exhausting.

Everyone took a nap to recover from the night before and wait till the dumpster arrived.
Thanks for all your hard work guys.  Next step, refinish the floors, and move in.

Before: The Small Things

Once our bid was accepted we went back into the house and that's when the noticing started...

We noticed, while that second bathroom is cute, it's really really small.  What is this, a bathroom for ants?
And wow, that plumbing is quite old.

Well this is a convenient way to get to the basement.  That storage closet is certainly a great place for all your kitchen equipment.  As long as you don't need it very often.

Here is a closeup of the wallpaper, and perhaps you can see how the cabinets don't close.

Hmmmmm, there must have been some flooding at some point.

These cracks are all over the house.  The house has settled, lath and plaster likes to do this apparently.

We have a beautiful side, front porch.  It's been covered in astroturf for a very long time.  Here we are inspecting all the cracks that we found below.  Again, the house has settled.

Oh, and the posts are starting to rot out.  Nothing we can't handle.

Anyone notice the way the chimney is leaning?  It works though!

It's not all doom and gloom this is just some of the work that we need to do.

Before: The Main Living Spaces In The Beginning

Here is the house, before we did anything to it...

Let's start with the major rooms:

Here is the living room.  Like the wall color? The blinds?  The red red carpet?  Neither did we.
The wallpaper, fyi is a khaki grainy sort of texture.  And that fixture!  Wow!
Gotta love the built ins.  The fireplace works, the chimney, is a bit rickety.

Here is the dining room, complete with velvet green wallpaper, plush green carpet, lacy curtains and adorable built ins and one hell of a chandelier.  It hangs very low.  The picture is deceiving.

And now perhaps my favorite room...the kitchen.  The picture does not do the trim justice.  Yes, it is in fact hot pink.  The counters are as well, though they are a bit more red.  What you can't see is that off to the right of the picture above is a little more cabinetry, a small bar type counter, and a trash compactor.  A trash compactor!

This is the "boys" room as I keep calling it.  Those are in fact custom built bunk beds.  They are very tiny.  Everyone who looks at the house says, "Is that my room?"  Yes, guests.  That is your room.

Here is the office, the walls are more pink than you realize.

This room, the master bedroom is amazing!!! It is huge!  Through that door in the back is the master closet, also huge.

I don't understand the wallpaper in this bathroom.  Wallpaper in a bathroom is a mystery to me, especially in Oregon.  But look at those tiles, and that sink, and the tub is gorgeous.  I love the blue and wish it truly showed up in the picture.

This nook is so adorable but seems like a massive waste of space to me.  I don't need all of this to get ready in the morning.  There is also so much room in the bedroom to get ready too.  Hmmmmm.  Perhaps when I have children this will make more sense?

And finally the basement, one day to be the man cave.  A dear friend, has already started a Pinterest page to help plan the remodel for this place.  Right now it is slowly being taken over by spiders.  I must be vigilant!

More pictures to come soon.  Next up.  Floor and wall demolition.  The move.  Minor repairs....and where are we now.  Feel free to leave comments, suggestions, and any other thoughts you might have.  We need all the help we can get!!!!!!
